Rucha Gujarathi (born 24 January 1983)[1] is an Indian Bollywood, television actress and model. She has acted in several Bollywood movies, soap operas, music albums and reality shows. She also acted as a child artist in several movies. She is best remembered for her lead role as 'Suhana' (popularly known as Bhabhi) in Hindi language soap opera Bhabhi on Star Plus.[2][3]

Early life and education[edit]

Gujarathi was born in Mumbai on 24 January 1983[1] and attended Mary Immaculate Girls' High School, Borivali to attain her Secondary education. She subsequently obtained a Diploma in Medical Lab Technology from SNDT Women's University.

Career[edit]

Gujarathi worked as a child artist in movies Dancer, Shabzade, Hum Hain Kamal Ke, Kanyadan and Shikari. Subsequently she appeared in several soap operas, music albums and reality shows. As a model, Gujarathi has done several commercials like Frooti, Emami, Clinic All Clear, Colgate, Pizza Hut India etc. She has also featured in music albums by Gurdas Maan, Pankaj Udhas and Vaishali Samant.[4][5]

Bhabhi (Sister-in-Law) is an IndianHindi language soap opera which aired on Star Plus from 18 March 2002 to 23 May 2008 during weekday afternoons.[2][3] The series was produced by UTV Software Communications.[4]

Overview[edit]

Saroj is forced to assume the mantle of the daughter-in-law and give solace to Tilak's mother. She manages to save her life but is devastated at her loss. The adulation, love and total acceptance from each member of the family numbs her so completely that she decides, for the moment, to accept her position as 'Pushpa bhabhi'.

Production[edit]

Neha Mehta playing Saroj quit the series on issues with the production house and Dolly Sohi replaced her.[5] Dolly Sohi who quit the series owing her marriage, re-entered the series on January 2007.[6] When Sohi quit, Rucha Gujarati became the lead who also quit in September 2007 when she was to age after a generation leap in story and was replaced by Jayshree Rao.[7][5]

On 17 August 2006, the series had a special wedding episode with cast from few other StarPlus series then attending the wedding sequence.[8]
